Welcome to AMFAWATCHDOGS.COM
Mission statement:
Attempting to keep our association
accountable to its Horizon Air dues paying membership.
News: Many Horizon Air AMFA members grow wary of AMFA and
are in the process of a card drive in order to request the NMB to allow us to
hold a representational election between the Teamsters and AMFA.
AMFA recently sent us out a newsletter that attempts to
enlighten us on some of the negative attributes of going with the Teamsters.
Some of these may be true others may not be true facts. But lets take a look at
AMFA’s track record as it now stands at Horizon Air.
- The last time AMFA negotiated our contract it took us an
additional three years past our amendable date before it was finally presented
to the membership for ratification.
-
Our current contract we ratified did not give us any sort
of signing bonus or back pay for those three years we awaited the new
contract.
- Our current contract brought us PTO, and a waiting period
in order to access sick leave.
- Our current contract allows the company the right to
outsource our work. (see article
- Our current contract has now once again reached its
amendable date and yet we have not even started the negotiation process for
the next contract.
- Our current contract has not been effectively enforced on
many levels. IE. Cleaners now having the ability to take work away from the
mechanics, inspection department shut down and bargaining unit inspectors have
been forced to become assigned to maintenance leadership under the new
“no-non-routine policy on both c check and line maintenance. This has allowed
the company to drive a Mac truck through our contract section titled
classification. The union didn’t even make an honest effort to stop the shut
down of QC Line maintenance.
- Our association leaders at
Horizon tried to extend our contract with Horizon for some sort of extension
period without even discussing it with their own members or sending out a
vote.
- Even though the GEG mod-line was a new type of work for
the company the association sat back and accepted the fact that the company
desired to outsource that work without any sort of bidding to salvage the work
for its own membership.
- The company now moves people into and out of field work
without regard for bidding processes or whether the people being utilized are
in or out of the bargaining unit. The union turns a blind eye to the company
utilizing supervisors to perform our bargaining unit lead technician work.
- AMFA seems to be Okay with Horizon
mechanic's doing work that should belong to their membership from Alaska Air
guess as long as they get theirs dues from someone that's all that really
matters. Just like when Northwest laid off all those mechanics AMFA
was just concerned about securing the new replacements dues rather than
protecting the jobs of the laid off members.
- Is AMFA going to represent us in regards
to the new time clock policies? Check this out, in Celia's corner the
company policy says that if you clock in up to 30 minutes early or clock out
up to 30 minutes late after the end of your shift the time clock will simply
disregard your extra work time and default back to the scheduled shift. I
guess the company has no regards for the Washington state and the Oregon
state work rules. The good news here though is this. You can file a
complaint with your state with or without your mighty association. Below are
links to the Washington and Oregon state work rules regarding work time and
pay for time suffered. Be sure and note the bold print in Washington's
documents. Their laws are very clear on this matter.
